Flintstones Complete comes in gummies (sour and regular) and they contain choline which is essential for the brain BUT the gummy version doesn't contain as much stuff as the regular Flintstones complete and the dosage is 2 gummies.

Rebecca also takes a teaspoon a day of Nordic Naturals complete Omega liquid w/ borage but she isn't very good about taking it (I put it in her breakfast drink).

She also takes a fluoride tablet.  -- Meg

Carnation instant breakfast sounds like a good idea. I used to give that to my older son when he was taking his ADHD meds in the am because the Ped said that the protein would help curb the highs and lows of the meds.

My son only drinks milk at night now(he gets some in his cereal which he eats for breakfast AND dinner, the only real meal he eats is lunch. but the cereal we give him is TOTAL which is loaded with alot of vitamins)maybe if we put the carnation stuff in his cup at bedtime the flavor would make him drink more of it. He
also takes EFA's--essential fatty acids, complete omega3-6-9. I get his at
my local Whole Foods. I either add it to a smoothie, stir into yogurt, or mix
it into his oatmeal (after it has cooled a bit--you can't cook it) I originally
started using it when he had a minor outbreak of baby excema--It is
supposed to be great for all skin problems (and it was!) Later, my own
Doctor prescribed it to me to help when I was feeling depressed a while
back. Then Jasper's dev. pediatrician said she basically thought every
human being should take them regularly to support brain function and
mood regulation. She thinks they are especially important for kids with
ASD's as they really are "brain food" for their developing brains. They help
control healthy levels of serotonin, build new tissue, and help the
'connections' in our brains function more effectively. Sounds good to me

The fluoride tablets are by prescription.  They must taste nice b/c Rebecca tries to steal her big sister's.  Abby's are shaped like airplanes and Rebecca's are shaped like cars (different dosages).

As for safe, I didn't use them for a while b/c if you do a web search, fluoride comes up as a neurotoxin.  However Rebecca's ped. neurologist also felt that she should be taking fluoride so I put her back on them.

Before I was giving both girls prescription multivitamins that contained fluoride but I started using the Flintstones when I stopped giving Rebecca fluoride, also b/c they contain choline.  So now we give her the Flintstones, the omega oil, and the fluoride tablet.  -- Meg

Wow great info. I guess my kids okay because he chews on his toothbrush alot and produces quite a bit of saliva. I know this sounds gross but he does this at least once a day, Maybe he already knows how to take care of his teeth[QUOTE=juls35inva]

Thanks everyone any other ideas?? I liked the fluoride tablet since my son won't brush his teeth except with a dry toothbrush at times. Where do you get those and are they safe?

Hi, just wanted to mention a few things, I am Registered Dental Hygienist and I wanted to comment on a few things.

Most people have the idea toothpaste is needed for proper plaque removal and to protect teeth from cavities.  Not True, what is needed is to use proper tooth brushing techniques to remove the plaque.  Most fluoride in toothpastes get washed away the second we rinse our mouths with water after brushing.  Encourage your child to brush no matter what.

Most communities still add fluoride to their water supply, so that is great. Your child can benefit from this even more if you make their juice with Tap water.  I caution you to check with your dentist about fluoride supplements.  Too much fluoride can cause Fluorosis. This is where permanent teeth have chalky white spots, brown spots and even become pitted (permanent teeth are still calcifying for many years after birth).

Here's to healthy smiles!

I sneak the liquid vites into my kids' juice and spaghetti/ravioli sauce.

Most multi-vites do not contain calcium.  Target just started carrying a chocolate that contains calcium.  It has no nasty vitamin taste whatsoever.  My kids are super picky and they love it.  You can find it in a green bag in the vitamin section.

Cheers!

bump!

pediasure was recommended to us!

I was told to have the instant breakfast for me... but it is alot to drink in one sitting :P

There are some vitamins that are gummy bears.  Kieran used to have them but grew sick of eating the gummies!  go figure!

I know alot of parents are giving their children supplements due to poor eating habits. Anyone know of a good "all-in-one" liquid supplement thats good and also that tastes decent?

I have been thinking about putting my son on a vitamin but I want(or should say prefer)one thats a one shot deal. any ideas? He's not on a restricitve diet, we tried that a year ago and it lasted two weeks.

There is one called, TOTAL BODY FORMULA, at GNC its in the childrens section and it gives you the dosage amnt according to weight. Its a orange flavor and I put in his orange juice and that will hide some of the taste. It has all vitamins and minerals in it. I give Zachary Carnation instant Breakfast,in his milk at night,it is the only thing he will take ,his ped, said it was good for him,and he has put on a little weight. We tried all the chewables,no luck,he hates them!I'm bumping this one... I think I have read a new thread on the same subject.I give my son Ensure.  I was told originally to give him pediasure but he doesnt like it.  I think the ensure is thicker and more like a shake and he loves that.  It was ok'd by his dr. as well.  We just do maybe one ensure every couple days a little with dinner every night.  But we only do it as needed.  If he is eating good we wont give it to him, but it really helps when he refuses food.  We also give him gummy vites each day to.  They are gummy bears that are actually vitamines, he loves them.  You can get those at Costco for pretty cheap.
